Let’s Be Social
Today is World Mental Health Day and whilst all of the staff here at Copthorne are so very grateful for the decisions that have led us this point in our lives. We would like today to talk about mental health in the veterinary sector. A study completed by the RCVS found that 90% of veterinary professionals indicated that they find their work stressful. Elevated work stress has been linked as a causation of anxiety and depression, which has been found to be significantly higher in veterinary professionals than the general population. So we would like to give a moment of thanks for charities that support professionals in our sector in the UK and across the world as it is not an issue that’s just limited to our shores. Charities such as VetLife, Not One More Vet and Mind Matters are so influential on many daily lives with their 24/7 support helplines, online and in person resources and workshops, their advocacy and initiatives that continue to draw attention and raise awareness and funding for every veterinary professional affected. Our mental health first aiders, Sarah and Corinne, have completed appropriate training to support us on an individual basis specifically at Copthorne. So a big thanks to them too!! 💙Please follow the links below if you feel like you need help or simply for more information!VetLife - www.vetlife.org.ukNot One More Vet - www.nomv.orgMind Matters - vetmindmatters.orgSuicide and Crisis Lifeline - 988lifeline.org or please call 988 if you feel you need immediate help. “RCVS survey of veterinary professions - synthesis report” (2014)“A cross-sectional study of mental health and well-being and their associations in the UK veterinary profession” (2009)
🌟 Companionship and Housing 🌟It is the final day of guinea pig awareness week! To finish off the week, we will share companionship and housing tips!Guinea pigs are social animals, so they should not live alone. When considering providing a home for guinea pigs, single-sex groups/pairs or littermates make the best companions. Males and females can live together, but we advise neutering the male first.Guinea pigs can live indoors and outdoors. However, special care should be taken during summer and winter due to temperature changes. For more information on ways to house guinea pigs and tips on their housing during summer and winter, visit the link below.guineapigalliance.com/guinea-pig-welfare/environment/#GPAW #gpaw2024
